Library of Shapes aka LOS

The “Library of Shapes” (LOS) is a collection of signs, shapes, and symbols archived thematically in 42 digital fonts (and will be continually expanded). The shapes range from elemental and geometric characters to organic and hybrid forms and Dingbats symbols.

During the design and archiving process, all shapes were digitally drawn or created in analog and then scanned or photographed and subsequently vectorized. Some of the more simple, elementary shapes of the LOS fonts do not claim to be original, they are rather part of a comprehensive collection of shapes that are easy to use as a personal design toolkitt (the font file as an archive).

The shapes in the font files are all based on an M-Square, in a grid of 1000 × 1000 units. This size causes all symbols to fit together into a seamless structure or perfectly aligned block if the point size and line spacing have the same value when typeset (e.g. 50 pt × 50 pt).

In all “LOS” fonts, the glyphs are mainly assigned with the upper and lower case letters on the keyboard (in some fonts, some shapes are also found on the number keys).
